Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made three changes to his starting line-up as Manchester United travelled to Newcastle on Wednesday night in search of a fourth-successive victory.Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones and Juan Mata were all given the nod at St James' Park in place of Ashley Young, Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard. But having beaten Bournemouth so comprehensively three days previously, United fans were surprised to see Solskjaer make so many alterations.Bailly's absence was to be expected after his straight red card, whereas Young and Lingard performed well on Sunday and were probably just as confused about being benched. In his pre-match press conference, Solskjaer explained exactly why Young and Lingard were omitted from his starting XI."Ashley has played a lot lately," he said. "I decided early on that we needed to give Antonio a proper training period and now he is ready to train again."Jesse played very minute, he has worked really hard, his work rate is phenomenal, but today Juan takes that position."Luckily for Solskjaer his changes didn't affect the end result as United sealed a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford. However, United fans still weren't very happy with one player: captain Antonio Valencia. Now 33 years old, Valencia really showed his age as he rarely ventured past the half-way line, which meant United had nothing down the right-hand side throughout the game.Valencia isn't the all-action right-back he once was, which is why United fans think it's about time the Ecuadorian was sold - or at least dropped for Young or Diogo Dalot.
