Newcastle United’s winless run was extended to four matches following a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday.Romelu Lukaku pounced on Martin Dubravka’s error to give the Red Devils the lead and Marcus Rashford slotted home a second as Rafa Benitez’s side drew another blank.Newcastle have only managed 15 goals in the Premier League this season and couldn’t find a way past David de Gea despite peppering his goal with 14 shots."We had chances in the first half, you lose 2-0 but we deserved more,” Benitez said at full-time, per BBC Sport. “If you analyse how we concede it's not clear chances. It's mistakes."The final third is the key and that's where you pay big money for players who can make the difference."Newcastle legend Alan Shearer attended the match at St James' Park and he knows that survival is the club’s number one aim for this season.“If they can finish fourth from bottom, I'll be delighted with that," Shearer told BBC Radio 5 live.

Shearer responds to Man United fan

The Red Devils’ win ensured that Shearer’s mentions on Twitter would be filled by gleeful Man United supporters.

They haven’t forgotten that Shearer rejected the chance to sign for Man United in 1996, choosing Newcastle instead of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.

And Shearer decided to reply to one of them.

“Bit quiet tonight al lad got shown a master class by united 🙋😂👌🖕,” Twitter user @johnrkeay wrote.

Shearer’s response was pretty superb.

“I don't know if you know, but I wasn't actually playing. You still sang my name all night though. 23 years now. Must be love,” he hit back.

Talk about hitting back in style.

But Newcastle fans also had a chant for Man United's visiting supporters.

It’s not the first time this season that Shearer has been involved in an exchange on Twitter with a Man United fan.

Last month a supporter came at the former England international after he failed to include a single Man United player in his Premier League team of the week following their 5-1 win against Cardiff City.

“It's been five months and I've been wondering where all the Man United fans have been! 🤔🤫😝🙋🏼‍♂️,” wrote Shearer in response.

It really is a wonderful relationship.
