It’s easy to wonder what Chelsea’s £58 million move for Christian Pulisic means for Callum Hudson-Odoi.The highly-rated 18-year-old hasn’t featured as much as many Chelsea fans would’ve hoped under Maurizio Sarri, and now there’s even more competition for places.Chelsea announced the signing of Pulisic on Wednesday morning. He will return to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season before joining up with his new teammates in the summer.American soccer correspondent Ives Galarcep believes that Pulisic can deliver on his hefty price tag.“If Sarri was eager to find a dynamic and defensively honest young winger to eventually replace ageing options Willian and Pedro Rodriguez, then he couldn't have done much better than Pulisic,” Galarcep told Goal.Yet Pulisic has had a difficult season in Germany, his place in the starting line-up being taken by Jadon Sancho. As a result, the United States international has managed just 483 minutes in the Bundesliga, providing one goal and two assists.

Bild's brutally honest reaction

And German outlet Bild have delivered a scathing reaction to the deal, claiming Dortmund have benefitted from the “irrationality” of Premier League clubs.

Dan Walker read out the reaction from Bild on Wednesday’s Match of the Day show.

“On the border of crazy. The whole thing is madness from Chelsea’s perspective,” the newspaper wrote.

“It shows once again Dortmund have profited from the irrationality of the Premier League as Chelsea splashed out €64m on a positionally-limited player that, as a substitute more recently, has stagnated.”

Jermaine Jenas felt that Bild were being harsh but it’s easy to understand where their concerns stem from.

Pulisic’s development appears to have stalled in the past year.

But it’s unfair to cast a verdict before he even appears in a Chelsea shirt. Fans will just have to wait to see whether the Blues have done well by signing him.

The 20-year-old expressed his delight to sign for a “legendary” club after the move was announced.

“It’s a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club and I look forward to working hard towards being a contributor to their team of world class players,” he said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“Looking forward to working with Maurizio Sarri and his technical team.”
