Vincent Kompany had a few words for Mo Salah after robust tackle during Man City v Liverpool

Manchester City and Liverpool were tipped to challenge for the Premier League title even before the season had kicked off.

And after 20 games each, those pre-season predictions were looking pretty good.

The two title rivals met at the Etihad with seven points separating them with the title race well and truly on.

While Spurs currently occupied second place, football fans believed this match could have a massive bearing on the outcome of the title race.

And before the heavyweight clash, Pep Guardiola sprung a surprise by naming Kyle Walker on the bench and a back-four of Danilo, John Stones, Vincent Kompany and Aymeric Laporte.

Club captain Kompany rarely plays against ‘top-six’ clubs but led his side out against Liverpool.

But he may have been fortunate not be dismissed after just 31 minutes.

Kompany lunged in on Mohamed Salah on the halfway line, catching the Liverpool forward.

The Belgian may have won the ball but it was a dangerous tackle and referee Anthony Taylor booked him.

While Kompany should’ve considered himself fortunate to stay on the pitch, he had other ideas.

With Salah in pain on the floor, Kompany walked past him and muttered: "get up you pu**y.”

Take a look:

It was something that plenty of football fans noticed and were laughing about it on social media:

With Kompany on the pitch, City took the lead just 11 minutes later.

Bernardo Silva’s cross found Sergio Aguero who nipped in front of Dejan Lovren and smashed the ball past Alisson.

Liverpool got themselves level after the break when Roberto Firmino nodded in from Andy Robertson's pull-back.

But Leroy Sane got the winner for City eight minutes later after being played through by Raheem Sterling.
