Manchester City vs Liverpool certainly lived up to the billing.Pitting the two best teams in the Premier League together isn't necessarily a guarantee of entertainment, but the supporters were given value for money at the Etihad Stadium.Liverpool literally came millimetres from taking the lead, almost profiting from a bizarre own goal only for John Stones to deliver a miraculous clearance off the line. And Kopites were only left more frustrated when City then proceeded to take the lead, Sergio Aguero lashing home in emphatic style from what seemed an impossible angle.Nevertheless, the Reds eventually equalised thanks to some nice work between their full-backs and Roberto Firmino provided the end produce with a close range header.

Kompany's tackle on Salah

But Leroy Sane ensured the Citizens took all the three points, securing the win after beating Alisson Becker and striking the inside of the post.

However, it wasn't a result that came void of controversy and Vincent Kompany's crunching tackle on Mohamed Salah was certainly the biggest talking point.

The general consensus is that Kompany should have been dismissed for the challenge, despite escaping with a yellow, and plenty of big names reacted angrily on Twitter.

Kompany calls it a 'great challenge'

So it was inevitable that Kompany was going to be quizzed on the incident during his post-match interview and not everybody was happy with his response.

"I thought it was a great challenge, was it not? I got the ball, a little bit of the man but it wasn't naughty," the City captain told Sky Sports.

"I didn't try to injure him. It was that or let him go through on goal."

What's more, Kompany was seen laughing during the interview and that really got on the nerves of some football fans, prompting reaction on Twitter.

There are many that feel Salah could have suffered a serious injury if he hadn't jumped, so Kompany's comments weren't everybody's cup of tea. Check out the reaction here:

Klopp certainly wasn't best pleased with the Belgian either and expressed his dissatisfaction before returning to the Liverpool dressing room.

"I really like Vincent Kompany but how on Earth is that not a red card?" said Klopp.

" He is last man and he goes in. If he hits Mo [Salah] more he is out for the season. It is not easy for the ref and he may not see it how I see it.

"Our expectations are high. We can play better. On the other side it was an intense game. You have to take the game how it is. You can't always dominate it. With a bit more luck we could have got 2-2, which would be perfect for us."
