The Premier League title race is well and truly on.

Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table has been cut to just four points after they suffered their first defeat of the campaign to Manchester City.

Sergio Aguero gave the home side the lead just before half-time but Roberto Firmino equalised for Jurgen Klopp’s side after the interval.

But it was Leroy Sane who scored the winner to move City back up into second and within touching distance of their opponents.

Now, it will be interesting to see how Liverpool react to their first defeat of the season.

We have to wait more than a week for Liverpool’s next Premier League fixture due to this weekend’s FA Cup action.

But when the Reds do return to the league, they face a tough trip to Brighton.

We don’t have to wait until then to see what Liverpool think of their first defeat of the campaign, though.

That’s because we could see it written all over the players’ faces at full-time - especially Virgil van Dijk.

Man City captain Vincent Kompany was seen trying to joke with Van Dijk but the Liverpool defender was having absolutely none of it.

He shrugged off Kompany and clearly didn’t want to be seen laughing and joking with him.

Take a look:

And it was something that Liverpool fans very much enjoyed. It wasn’t the time for joking around. Check out the reaction:

Maybe Kompany was joking about the ability of Van DIjk’s defensive partner, Dejan Lovren. Lovren had a torrid 90 minutes and was punished by the champions.

If only Liverpool had two Van Dijk’s at the heart of defence…
