Gary Lineker replies to Graeme Souness' claim that David Silva is Premier League's best ever

Leicester City v Manchester City - Premier League

Manchester City hauled themselves back into the title race with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at the Etihad on Thursday night.

Goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane moved Pep Guardiola’s side to within four points of Liverpool as the Citizens look to retain their Premier League trophy.

There were some outstanding performances during the pulsating 90 minutes, with Fernandinho and Bernardo Silva winning the midfield battle for City.

Alongside them in midfield was David Silva but the Spaniard was substituted one minute after Liverpool had levelled the match at 1-1.

It wasn’t his finest night in a City shirt but the 32-year-old is still one of City’s most important players.

Silva is in his ninth season at the club, having racked up 368 appearances and scored 70 goals.

And Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness even suggested that he could be the best player in Premier League history ahead of City’s clash with Liverpool.

"David Silva has an argument to be the best Premier League player ever,” the former Liverpool midfielder said on Sky Sports, per the Mirror.

It’s a massive claim from Souness - and it’s one that Gary Lineker disagreed with.

Lineker saw Souness’ comments and just had to take to Twitter.

The Match of the Day presenter wrote: “The best player to have played in the @premierleague is unquestionably @Cristiano.”

Lineker then followed that up with a reply to a fan who claimed Ronaldo’s best performances came at Real Madrid.

“You make my point for me. I said the best player to play in the @premierleague. @Cristiano played in the PL and is probably the only player to have played in the PL that would be in a list of the top 10 of all time,” he replied.

We feel more football fans will probably agree with Lineker over Souness on this one…
