Chelsea certainly got the January transfer ball rolling for 2019 on Wednesday morning.

Out of the nowhere, the Blues announced they had secured the signing of Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic for a fee of £58m.

The highly-rated American will be loaned back to the Bundesliga outfit for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

Pulisic's career has been hampered by the stunning form of Jadon Sancho this campaign, but there's no doubting the 20-year-old's enormous potential.

Not to mention that Chelsea are crying out for a young right-winger to takeover from the ageing duo of Willian and Pedro Rodriguez.

However, despite the fact they play on opposite sides of the attack, Pulisic's arrival seems to had an impact on the future of academy prospect Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The 18-year-old winger is already a fan favourite and is seen as the brightest thing to emerge from Cobham in many years.

As such, Bayern Munich have already tabled a number of bids for Hudson-Odoi, with the latest reportedly totalling around £30m.

Maurizio Sarri's assistant Gianfranco Zola insisted that the club wish to keep the Englishman, but the Daily Mail are now reporting that Chelsea's stance has changed.

They feel Hudson-Odoi's head has been turned by Bayern, perhaps due to the success of fellow Englishman like Sancho and Reiss Nelson out in Germany.

Chelsea do not expect him to sign a contract extension and instead, they will focus on starting a bidding war for a player who is certain to have a number of high-profile suitors.

Staff at the club believe Bayern's approach has been too forceful after apparently contacting his family - who act as his advisors - about the move.

As a result of the German club's advances and the fact they have had such an impact on Hudson-Odoi, Chelsea are doing all they can to avoid selling him to Niko Kovac's side.

The Blues want at least £40m for a player who only has three Premier League appearances to his name.

Modern football, eh?
