Manchester United fans must have been fearing the worst when their starting line-up to face Reading was announced on Saturday.
Going forward there was nothing to worry about as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata.
United's midfield three of Scott McTominay, Fred and Andreas Pereira wasn't bad either, but their defence was a cause for concern.
Sandwiched between full-backs Diogo Dalot and Ashley Young was Phil Jones and Matteo Darmian, who is a right-back by trade.
Due to injuries and suspensions Solskjaer had no choice but to partner Jones with Darmian at centre-back, yet somehow the pair recorded a clean sheet.
United won the game 2-0 thanks to goals from Mata and Lukaku, with Reading enjoying most of the possession and having more attempts.
Speaking after the game, Solskjaer acknowledged how tough it must have been for his players - especially Darmian - to perform in such a makeshift side.
"It was always going be hard with my team selection," said United's interim manager, per the Irish Times. "I made it hard for the players to be fair on them.
"It's a team that's never played together. "Some players like [Darmian] played out of position but I thought he was excellent. Reading made it really tough for us.
"We never had a kick the first five minutes. They just kept possession and we weren't cohesive enough in the pressing. That happens when you have a team that doesn't play together."
Darmian surprisingly had a solid game at the heart of defence, whereas Jones produced yet another comical moment that fans have come to expect from him.
At one point the Englishman completely faceplanted the floor as he tried to win the ball from Reading striker Daniel Loader. Check it out below.
Amazing - but it gets even better.
It's been noticed by United fans that Jones, who travelled with the squad to Dubai after the Reading game, suffered friction burn on his forehead from the fall.
The unassuming picture below was posted on United's Instagram page, but if you zoom in on Jones' forehead you can see where he's burned himself.
Never change, Phil. Rumours are swirling that United are in for a new centre-back this month, so we might get to see less of Jones and his hilarious antics in the future.News Now - Sport News
