Real Madrid's season went from bad to worse on Sunday evening as they lost 2-0 at home to Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Defeat for Los Blancos - their sixth in La Liga alone - meant they lost even more ground on league leaders Barcelona, who are now 10 points ahead following their 2-1 victory over Getafe.

As if conceding two goals without reply wasn't bad enough, though, Real were denied a blatant penalty when Vinicius Junior was brought down by goalkeeper Gero Rulli late on.

VAR was available to the referee yet he decided against using it, much to the frustrations of Real players and manager Santiago Solari.

And just to add insult to injury, Lucas Vazquez was sent off in the second half for a second bookable offence. He now faces a one-match ban.

Vazquez's imminent suspension comes at an incredibly bad time for Real as they're currently without Welsh winger Gareth Bale, who limped off against Villarreal last week with a calf injury.

Bale's return date is unknown at the moment, though Solari hopes it won't be long: "We think the injury is not too serious. He will go through tests and we all hope he is back with us quickly."

By his usual standards Bale has been pretty poor this season, only scoring four goals in 15 La Liga appearances.

It was hoped Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Juventus in the summer would allow Bale to flourish and become the main man, but that's been anything but the case.

And his situation in Madrid became even more precarious on Sunday when, according to Sport, he left the Sociedad game in the 78th minute when the score was 1-0.

In the image below, per El Chiringuito, Bale can be seen driving away from the Bernabeu in his Audi while Real were searching for an equaliser. They went 2-0 down five minutes later.

Strange. It hasn't yet been explained why Bale left the game so early and at such an important time, but until then Real fans will undoubtedly be annoyed with him.

It's claimed Bale doesn't fit in very well in the Spanish capital and his latest actions will only fuel that notion.
