Ki-Jana Hoever became Liverpool’s third-youngest ever player during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup.

The 16-year-old started on the bench at Molineaux but, within six minutes, was on the pitch following Dejan Lovren’s injury.

It was always going to be tough for the Dutchman to come on to make his professional debut six minutes into a cup tie but he performed admirably.

While Hoever couldn’t prevent Liverpool from losing 2-1, he showed incredible confidence and composure on the ball, far beyond his years.

In their player ratings after the match, the Liverpool Echo wrote the following about Hoever’s performance: “What a night for the 16-year-old Dutchman. Didn't appear ruffled in the early going and fizzed a few nice passes forward. Nearly caught off by Jimenez in the second half, but a good performance on his senior debut. Most definitely one for the future.”

But just because he made his debut so young, it doesn’t necessarily mean Hoever is destined for greatness.

Just look at the two youngest players to have ever played for the club.

LIVERPOOL'S TWO YOUNGEST PLAYERS

Jack Robinson

Robinson became the club’s youngest player in Liverpool’s history when he came on as a late substitute during a Premier League game against Hull in May 2010.

However, the defender - who had been at the club since he was nine-years-old - only went on to make 10 further appearances.

Loan spells at Wolves and Blackpool followed before he eventually left Liverpool on a permanent basis in the summer of 2014, joining QPR.

He was immediately loaned to Huddersfield, where he played 30 league games at left-back before a serious knee injury ended his season.

But he eventually became a first-team regular at QPR before joining Nottingham Forest on a free transfer last summer.

He’s now playing regularly for the Championship side, who are pushing for promotion to the Premier League.

Jerome Sinclair

Sinclair broke Robinson’s record two years later, when he came off the bench against his former club West Brom in September 2012.

Sinclair was just 16 years and six days when he made his debut, setting a club record that could stand for some time.

But, like Robinson, he failed to make it at Liverpool, playing just four more times - although he did score in the FA Cup against Exeter during the 2015/16 campaign.

He went on loan to Wigan in March 2015 but made just one appearance before returning to Anfield.

In the summer of 2016, Sinclair was allowed to join Watford on a free transfer but made only six appearances before being sent on loan to Birmingham.

This season, Sinclair joined Sunderland on loan but is struggling to play regularly, scoring just twice in League One.
