Manchester City have quickly established themselves as one Europe's elite and since Pep Guardiola's appointment back in 2016, the Citizens have made themselves the team to beat in the Premier League.
City's 2-1 win over Liverpool has put them back on course to potentially retain their Premier League crown, with Guardiola's side now only four points behind the Reds.
The blue of Manchester has often been accused of 'buying' the Premier League with a plethora of big-money buys, however, there is more to City's success than meets the eye.

Definitely the player that had the most success at City before moving on.
Iheanacho managed an impressive 10 Premier League goals before the age of 20 and looked to have a chance of potentially breaking into the starting 11.
But Iheanacho's lack of game-time led to a move to Leicester where he has struggled with injuries.
Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid) - £22m (4 starts)
The most recent of Guardiola's youthful departures, Brahim Diaz had been slowly building a name for himself around the club, but even the most optimistic of City fans would be lying if they said they expected Diaz to leave for such a fee.
The 19-year-old made just four starts for City before moving to Real Madrid for £22 million on Monday.
His impressive performances in pre-season along with a brace against Fulham was seemingly enough for the Spanish giants to swoop in.
Angus Gunn (Southampton) - £13.5m (0 starts)
City managed to sell Gunn for £13.5 million without the goalkeeper making a single appearance for the club.
The Norwich City graduate returned to the Canaries on loan last season and played every league game for the club.
Southampton then came calling in the summer and the rest is history.
Enes Unal (Villarreal) - £12.7m (0 starts)
After impressing for Bursaspor in Turkey, Man City snapped up the youngster for £2 million.
Despite no appearances for the club, a promising loan spell in the Netherlands with Twente - scoring 18 goals in 32 games - whetted the appetite of La Liga side Villarreal.
£10 million profit made just like that.
Jason Denayer (Lyon) - £9.9m (0 starts)
The Belgian initially impressed on loan at Celtic alongside none other than Virgil van Dijk, then a spell at Sunderland sandwiched between two seasons at Galatasaray followed for the centre-back.
With over 100 competitive appearances to his name at this stage, Lyon took the gamble and signed Denayer on a permanent deal.
Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) - £9.1m (0 starts)
Sancho was an unknown to the majority of football fans before his £9.1 million move to Borussia Dortmund and what has happened since will no doubt make every City fan jealous.
The 18-year-old - who never made an appearance for City - has taken the Bundesliga by storm, scoring eight goals for the club and even earning three caps for England in the process.
Would he have had this success if he had remained in Manchester?
Well, that is pure speculation.
Pablo Maffeo (Stuttgart) - £8.8m (3 starts)
Maffeo was brought into City's first team by Manuel Pellegrini after two years in the academy but only managed 3 starts for the club.
Two loan spells at Girona attracted Stuttgart to the Spaniard and he moved over to Germany this summer.
Rony Lopes (Monaco) - £8.8m (3 starts)
Sold before Guardiola was appointed, fans would have been forgiven thinking Rony Lopes may have a future at City after the Portuguese managed two assists in the 2014 League Cup semi-final, but this proved to be the highlight of Lopes' brief time at the club.
He was sold to Monaco the summer after has since been shipped off to France on loan with Lille.
Karim Rekik (Marseille) - £7.5m (1 start)
Joined City in 2011 from Feyernoord, Rekik failed to break into the City set-up - only made one league appearance for the club.
The Dutchman had loan spells at Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers and PSV Eindhoven before making a permanent switch to Marseille.
He now turns out for German outfit Hertha Berlin.
Angelino (PSV) - £5.6m (1 start)
Signed from Spain, Angelino - who predominantly plays as a left-back - made his debut for City in January 2016 before quickly being loaned out to feeder club, New York City.
Loan spells at Girona, Mallorca and Breda followed before PSV signed the defender on a permanent deal.
Olivier Ntcham (Celtic) - £5.5m (0 starts)
Ntcham signed from boyhood club Le Havre and failing to break into City's first team was sent out on loan to Genoa for two years - scoring three goals in 37 appearances.
The Frenchman now plays for Celtic and has become an essential part of Brendan Rogers' side.
Seko Fofana (Udinese) - £4.2m (0 starts)
Fofana was snapped up by City from Lorient and after just a year with the academy moved on to Fulham.
A loan spell with Bastia followed after making his first two appearances for the Citizens, eventually attracting Udinese.
Fofana is now one of Serie A's top midfielders.
Bersant Celina (Swansea) - £3.8m (1 start)
Manuel Pellegrini appeared to show some faith in Celina, including him in a number of matchday squads as well as an appearance against Norwich in the FA Cup.
However, after loan spells at Twente and Ipswich, the midfielder made a permanent move to Swansea City and has been a regular starter in the Championship for the Welsh side.
