Denis Suarez has been the latest and most promising player linked to Arsenal in January.

There's doubts over whether the Gunners will splash the cash in the winter market, especially as Unai Emery had to cope with limited funds during his first few months in charge.

Nevertheless, the man himself has hinted at January purchases for the club and after losses to Liverpool and Southampton over the Christmas period, perhaps it's time to dip into the funds again.

"Maybe the transfer market can help us with a centre-back, but it is not easy because also (Konstantinos) Mavropanos is coming back after injury," Emery informed Sky Sports recently.

"Also a winger, right or left, one player can help us in this position.

Arsenal in the January window

"We need players with commitment. We need players who are prepared for when the team needs them and they can step up."

It won't be easy for Arsenal to secure the players they want at this time of year and with their limited budget, necessitating the need for canny purchases.

And the aforementioned Suarez might be a perfect solution with the Spaniard having been limited to just 41 minutes of action at Barcelona this season.

Suarez gives the 'ok' for Arsenal move

Reports have suggested that Barcelona are open to selling, although the Evening Standard warns that differences over Suarez's price could derail a potential deal.

However, news from Spain on Tuesday is cause for optimism at the Emirates Stadium and, according to Sport, the positivity comes from Suarez himself.

The Spanish publication notes that Suarez has given the 'ok' to an Arsenal move, noting that a switch to north London is the only option other than remaining at the Nou Camp.

It's claimed that his approval was critical to any potential deal and now both clubs will start discussing a transfer, with the 25-year-old understood to have a £20 million release clause.

AC Milan and Valencia are also interested in securing his signature, but Suarez has his eyes set on Arsenal and no other club.

The Spaniard is keen to work with his former Sevilla manager Emery once again and whether the deal is secured now or in the summer, things are looking promising.

Either way, you can be almost certain that Suarez will be leaving Barcelona and this latest report suggests he'll do everything in his power to sign for Arsenal.

It might not be the marquee signing to get Arsenal fans pumped, but it would be another exciting addition to a side that is building and progressing with every match.

Let's hope the negotiations don't derail Suarez's wishes.
