After winning the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 232, Jon Jones has been calling for longtime rival Daniel Cormier to come and try and win it back off him.

Bones made it clear after he had defeated Alexander Gustafsson in the main event of UFC 232 that he wanted to fight DC for the third time in their careers, putting his newly won UFC Light Heavyweight title on the line.

Later to reporters, Jones also made it clear that any completion of the trilogy between himself and Cormier will take place at light heavyweight as he will not make the jump up to heavyweight, a division which his longtime rival currently controls.

Jones said he won't fight Cormier at heavyweight because that 'would be making it extremely personal' and that 'DC needs to admit to the people that he was never the light heavyweight champion' or face him at light heavyweight and shut him up.

Speaking on The MMA Hour, via BJPenn.com, Luke Rockhold, Cormier’s longtime teammate, has looked over Bones' comments and he believes he knows the real reason why he won't fight at heavyweight.

The former UFC Middleweight Champion thinks Jones doesn't want to fight at heavyweight as that would give Cormier an advantage. He said: “Jones doesn’t want that fight. Jones does not want a fight with DC at heavyweight. He doesn’t want to give him any advantages.

“He’s obviously taken what he can to build his confidence to fight him at light heavyweight. So, we all know he’s tested dirty twice in a row now. Three times? I don’t know what it is but… Picograms, whatever the hell they are…

“He’s obviously compensating to build himself up. DC at heavyweight is a much more dangerous fighter. He’s looser, he’s movin’ people, I’ve seen him in the gym.”

Rockhold believes that if Jones wants to prove anyone that doubts him wrong, he should move up into Cormier's territory and fight him there instead of at light heavyweight.

He said: “Jones picked his words wisely on the mic trying to bait DC to come back down and manipulate him back down to light heavyweight. Jones walks around at 240 [pounds], DC – he walks around at 240.

"Fight where you are, fight where you naturally are. You’re the baddest man on the planet? Stop trying to pick off guys like Anthony Smith and stop talking about DC the champ-champ.

"Go up and fight the champ-champ where he’s at. Where he is the baddest man on the planet. Otherwise, stay where you're at and I’ll come to you.”

Jones vs Rockhold would be interesting to see. Just like a third fight between Bones and DC though, it won't be taking place anytime soon, as Dana White recently revealed that Bones will be defending his title against Anthony Smith in the main event of UFC 235 in March later this year.
