If UFC fans thought Colby Covington against Tyron Woodley was the big fight to make for the Welterweight division in 2019, then the company clearly don't agree. On a six-fight unbeaten streak having won the interim Welterweight title against Rafael dos Anjos in his last bout back in June 2018, Covington was stripped of that belt less than two months later, with Woodley defeating Darren Till in September to become the undisputed champion. The Californian-born fighter believes he deserves the next shot at Woodley's belt, but that has gone to Kamaru Usman, who comprehensively disposed of dos Anjos back in November. The decision did not go down well with Covington, who wanted to face Woodley at the now-cancelled UFC 233 which was supposed to take place on January 26, but owing to a thumb injury picked up against Till, Woodley was ruled unable to fight. Covington has claimed that UFC President Dana White has lied to him, and is clearly furious about the goings-on surrounding Woodley's next fight.“In the end, I didn’t get the title shot because of politics behind it,” Covington told Ariel Helwani on his MMA Show, per MMA Mania.“You wanted to pull the curtain back today, so we are pulling back the curtain. Dana White has lied to me, UFC has lied to me.”"They made promises to me that I was going to fight Tyron Woodley in November in Madison Square Garden. They made promises to me that I was going to fight him in January in California."Then all of a sudden I’m getting passed up for a guy behind me that’s being my sloppy seconds. It’s not even a guy fans want to see. If anything, Dana and UFC are s****ing on the fans.”

Because of all this, 'Chaos' Covington has threatened to quit the promotion,

"They are going to wish they gave me the title shot," said Covington.

"I’m going to be the biggest draw in fighting, not just in UFC, but If I’m somewhere else. I don’t need to be in the UFC. I don’t need UFC, UFC needs me.”

“Unless they call me with a title shot, I got nothing to say. I don’t need them. If they want to release me, release me, it’s not a big deal to me.”

Whilst also claiming they owe him money from a promotional appearance he completed in Australia, it seems like Covington and the top UFC brass are not going to be friends for a while with his latest outbursts.
