The tension between UFC star Conor McGregor and former boxer Paulie Malignaggi recently reignited but it seems a bout between the two is not planned for the imminent future.

Malignaggi was a sparring partner of McGregor’s during the build up to the blockbuster meeting between the Irishman and American boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2017.

The partnership between the two failed to flourish though, as Malignaggi swiftly exited the McGregor camp amongst some controversy surrounding a few images shared from a training session involving the two.

A short video circulated the internet which seemingly showed the Irishmen McGregor putting Malignaggi down.

That departure caused the two to clash in interviews and on social media, with many predicting the rivalry would inevitably lead to a grudge match in the ring.

And rumours of talks regarding a possible fight have resurfaced over the last week.

However, Malignaggi has quashed any rumours of a planned fight between himself and McGregor.

The former two-weight world champion believes his bitter foe is just using his name to keep himself in the spotlight.

“But of course, Conor is the king of bulls**t so I would not be surprised if this Conor having his team put out rumours just to keep his name in the headlines,” Malignaggi told the Daily Express.

The American believes the talk of a grudge match happening has come about after McGregor was shut down by Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, who himself recently suffered a loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Tenshin Nasukawa shut him down by telling him he needs to make 58 kilos for a fight,” the 38-year-old said. “Now suddenly, the next day, he is another headline negotiating?”

The heat between the two is being made into a Netflix special, supposedly a 3-part series, based around the footage that emerged of the sparring session. The Brooklyn born former champion refuses to accept the footage as shown, claiming it has been doctored and the show will be manipulated to suit the UFC star McGregor.

“He can show all footage, but if you haven't got anything to be ashamed about, including the knockdown footage being twisted with the strange camera angles to sell it, then just show it as it is, right? I still don’t believe he has the balls to show the footage un-doctored.

The American, who retired from boxing two years ago, said “I assure you he will never fight me. No balls wasn’t a catchphrase, it is a fact.”
