A lot seems to have changed for Colby Covington in just over six months.In June 2018, he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos to claim the interim welterweight championship, all but confirming an undisputed title bout against arch-nemesis, Tyron Woodley.
INTERIM CHAMPION
The win over dos Anjos also saw Chaos visit the White House, with UFC president Dana White also in attendance and reiterating on several occasions that Covington and The Chosen One were destined to do battle inside of the Octagon.
Injuries and sinus issues aside, it's a fight many thought would happen, especially after Woodley defeated the dangerous Darren Till.
Now, Covington has been putting both White and the UFC on blast for not fulfilling their promises - a fight against Woodley.
Instead, Woodley will put the gold on the line against another dangerous contender that doesn't get on with Covington, Kamaru Usman, at UFC 235 which is expected to be headlined by Jon Jones and Anthony Smith in their light heavyweight championship fight.
Despite threatening to walk away from the UFC and head to another promotion, Covington has now stated that he's willing to fight in the UFC, but under one big condition.
It's not a title fight he's asking for if he does fight in the Octagon, but he's demanding undisputed champion pay if he does end up fighting The Gorilla, Till.
CHAMPIONSHIP PAY
According to Bloody Elbow, Covington told MMA Weekly: "I’m not going to go backwards.
"I was promised an undisputed title shot and undisputed pay, I’m not fighting for anything less than undisputed pay. I’m not going to fight for less money.
"They want me to fight Darren Till? Fine, no big deal. I’ll fight him, but I’m getting my undisputed championship title fight pay to fight him.
"All these guys are jobbers. I’m the best welterweight on the planet right now,” he said. “No one’s going to stop me. I’m getting better every day. All these guys suck. They’re not even in my league. You haven’t even seen me at my best.
"You’ve seen me fighting for an interim title and winning a title at 50-percent when I couldn’t even breathe. Swallowing mucus, swallowing blood, all in my lungs, all in my sinuses and I had to get that surgery to clear it out. So you haven’t even seen my potential.
“I’m 30 years young. They act like they can put me on ice. I don’t give a s***. Time is on my side mother*******. I’ve got time to wait. The best is yet to come for Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington and I will not go out silently.”
With Covington now watching his title shot go to someone else, perhaps a fight against Till - who hasn't fought since losing to Woodley - is the fight to keep him busy.
