What must Philippe Coutinho be thinking right now?

The Brazilian gave up a position as the central figure at Liverpool to push through a move to Barcelona but it isn't working out right now.

Barca chased Coutinho for the best part of a year, choosing not to hide their desire to sign the playmaker - not that they ever tend to.

The interest clearly affected him. Coutinho suddenly became injury prone, although only when the transfer windows were open last season.

He did eventually get his move at the start of 2018 but he's struggling for games a year later.

Coutinho hasn't started any of Barcelona's last four La Liga games, playing a combined 62 minutes off the bench.

It's enough to make you wonder if he has a long-term future at Camp Nou and surely enough, there are reports linking the 26-year-old with a move away.

A report from AS claims that Barcelona do still feel that he'll become a successful player for them, but it also claims there are two major concerns over Coutinho.

The first is the 'fragility of [his] confidence'. Coutinho has struggled and hasn't looked like turning things around quickly.

It's a far cry from the player who would prove decisive in big moments for Liverpool, consistently showing the confidence to attempt the extravagant and usually pulling it off.

If he is to become a success at Barca, he simply must rediscover that mentality - it's what they signed him for, after all.

The second worry is about his agents. Kia Joorabchian and Giuliano Bertolucci represent Coutinho and they have already told Barca that they want the situation to change.

The AS report describes them as 'toxic', suggesting that a recent report linking Willian, another Joorabchian client, to a swap deal with Barca's Malcom were likely at his behest.

It's difficult to see how Barca's concerns will be easily quashed and they look like real hurdles for both player and club.

If things don't change, a difficult decision will surely be considered at the end of the season.
