Giuseppe Rossi’s career took a sad turn in September 2018 when he failed a drugs test. The former Manchester United striker tested positive for an eye drug that could be used as a masking agent.Rossi escaped a ban but he’s been without a club since leaving Genoa at the end of the 2017-18 season. In a rather touching gesture, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since reached out to Rossi and has allowed him to train with Man United.BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone tweeted on Sunday: “OGS has invited Giuseppe Rossi to train @ManUtd to help him resurrect his career.”But that’s a different story to the one that emerged late on Saturday. The Telegraph’s Sam Wallace penned a report that claimed Rossi had actually returned to Man United as a coach, and had even received a visit from Sir Alex Ferguson.

Rossi tweets after report he's coaching

“Ferguson was at the Carrington training ground on Saturday to meet with one of his former players, Giuseppe Rossi, who is coaching there,” Wallace wrote.

Turns out that’s not the case.

Rossi has laughed off the rumour that he’s now coaching, tweeting: “Hahahahaha me a coach??????”

Well, that’s one report we can put to bed.

It would appear that he is training with his former club, though, as he looks to get his career back on track.

The 31-year-old shared a photo of Old Trafford on his Instagram story on Saturday.

The former Italy international came through the youth system at Man United and went on to make 14 appearances under Ferguson in all competitions.

But his career has sadly been impacted by a number of injuries.

The chance to train and rebuild his fitness at a familiar setting was one that Rossi simply couldn’t refuse and it says a lot about Solskjaer that he extended an invitation to his former teammate.

Small gestures can go a long way.
