Real Madrid are having to endure a tough time at the moment with the club currently in fifth position in La Liga, accumulating just 30 points in 18 games.

If things remain as they are it would be the first time that the Spanish giants have failed to finish in a Champions League spot since 1996.

Los Galacticos seemed to lose their way soon after the departure of manager Zinedine Zidane and club talisman Cristiano Ronaldo.

A member of the Madrid family who has also departed is former-president Roman Calderon.

The 67-year-old left his position back in 2009 after being accused of vote rigging for confirmation of the financial budget.

Calderon has revealed some hidden truths regarding the surprise departure of Zinedine Zidane back in May of 2018.

The Frenchman had tremendous success in the Champions League with Madrid, winning an unbelievable three European crowns in a row.

However, there was one thing that Zidane disagreed with enough to leave his post with immediate effect.

It turns out Zidane wanted Madrid to sell Welshman Gareth Bale in the 2018 summer transfer window but instead the board decided to offload their all-time top goal-scorer Cristiano Ronaldo.

Zidane must've heard that these events were to transpire as the former French-international left the club just weeks before Ronaldo's transfer to Juventus.

"Zidane made it very clear when he decided to leave the club," Calderon was quoted as saying by Bleacher Report.

"He insisted on keeping Cristiano and transferring Bale, and the president did completely the opposite.

"Zidane also wanted to sign some players and transfer others —apart from Bale— but he didn't get his wish, so he decided to leave. And he was right."

Ronaldo is now tearing up Serie A, scoring 14 goals in 19 games and looks to have proven that a team without Cristiano Ronaldo is significantly weaker than one with the Portuguese.

At the end of the day, the £100 million transfer fee that Juventus paid for the 33-year-old has already turned out to be a bargain.

With a combination of shirt sales, Ronaldo's travelling audience and his impact on the pitch, the Italian club are certainly the one's laughing.
