Lionel Messi reached yet another landmark in his phenomenal career in Barcelona’s 3-0 win against Eibar on Sunday. The Argentinian forward scored in the second half to make it 2-0 to the Blaugrana, meaning he has now netted 400 goals in La Liga. It’s a ridiculous number that becomes even more impressive when you remember that scoring goals is only part of Messi’s game.Shortly after Barcelona’s victory, Real Madrid prevailed 2-1 against Real Betis.Los Blancos weren’t very convincing - they managed just 26.3 per cent of the possession - but were helped by another impressive showing by 18-year-old Vinicius Jr.The young Brazilian is continuing to develop at a brisk pace and they’re certainly getting excited about him in Madrid.Indeed, it was pointed out to Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba that some in the Spanish capital are beginning to compare Vinicius to Messi.

Vinicius Jr. compared to Messi

That’s an utterly absurd comparison, and Alba’s reaction summed it up.

Per Sport, the Spaniard simply replied, “Good night” and left the mixed zone upon hearing the comparison.

He couldn’t even be bothered to entertain such an idea.

Real Madrid are in need of a new hero following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure but placing that responsibility on Vinicius’ shoulders at such a young age seems unfair.

It’s important to remember that this is his first season as a Real Madrid player and he was still playing for Castilla in October.

Surely no good can come from comparing him to a player who is widely considered to be the greatest of all-time.

Vinicius currently leads a vote on Marca where fans can choose the best Real Madrid player in the win against Betis.

“This was another fine display,” Marca wrote about the teenager.

“He played in a more central role and left a good impression as he caused anxiety in the home defence.

“He keeps improving and has earned status as a regular.”

He certainly looks destined for big things. But let’s calm down on the Messi comparisons, please.
