Real Madrid’s decision to sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus for £100 million is looking more and more foolish with each passing week.

The Portuguese superstar may be turning 34 next month but he shows very little signs of slowing down.

He’s already scored 15 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions for Juventus as they stroll to yet another Serie A title.

And it was almost as if Real Madrid thought they could survive without replacing one of the best players in the world.

The European champions failed to sign a replacement for Cristiano and are now paying the price as they sit fourth in La Liga.

And now, a report in the Daily Mail, suggests that Real are almost trying to forget Ronaldo ever played for them.

The report attempts to explain how Real Madrid are ‘airbrushing Cristiano Ronaldo out of their history through social media divorce, ignoring him on club TV channel and favouring others online.’

Ronaldo broke all sorts of records during his nine-year spell at the Bernabeu, scoring 450 goals in 438 games and helping them win 15 trophies.

So, why are Madrid trying so hard to remove him from their history?

Firstly, the Daily Mail mention how the home page of the club’s website display four players selected in UEFA’s team of 2018.

Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric and Marcelo appear in Madrid kit.

Considering Ronaldo inspired them to Champions League glory, it’s strange that there is no mention of him when you click on the article other than his name in the line-up. It seems Madrid are keen to insist they had four players in UEFA’s XI, not five.

Elsewhere on the website, Ronaldo is snubbed in favour of Alfredo Di Stefano and Zinedine Zidane in the Football History and Football Legends sections.

In another section that celebrates recent trophy victories, Ronaldo can only be seen in the background of one.

There are even claims that the official television channel is trying to limit footage featuring Ronaldo. If they’re looking for another player’s greatest moments and it involves Ronaldo, then they will ‘go looking for other highlights clip involving other players.’

Rather more childishly, Madrid stopped following Ronaldo on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram last summer. The player himself responded in the same way.

A source close to Ronaldo reportedly told the Daily Mail that the theory of him being airbrushed out where possible was 'a solid one.’

Apparently, something similar happened to the legendary Raul when he moved to another Champions League side in Schalke and it was only when he wasn’t a rival that Real started to show their love for him.

Maybe the same will happen with Ronaldo.

But one thing is for sure, the club are seemingly trying to forget all about Ronaldo while he continues his incredible career at Juventus.
