Video of Phil Jones' tackle on Harry Kane that has sidelined him until March

Tottenham’s season has taken a turn for the worse.

Before Christmas, there was talk that Spurs could challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title.

However, a shock home defeat to Wolves at the end of December and then Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Manchester United has left them nine points off the pace.

And, in the final seconds of that loss to United, Harry Kane injured ankle ligaments putting him out until early March.

Kane is Tottenham’s top goalscorer this season with 20 goals in all competitions.

And on Tuesday, Spurs fans received the news that they were all dreading.

“Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that @HKane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle, sustained during Sunday’s match. He will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March,” the club’s Twitter account posted.

But how did it happen?

With it coming so late in the game, there wasn’t an opportunity for Sky Sports to show a replay of the incident.

After the match, a frustrated Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said: “It was a clear foul on Harry Kane, a big hit. [Referee] Mike Dean said he didn’t see it.”

And now, a video has emerged that shows exactly what happened.

It shows both Kane and Phil Jones going for a ball on the edge of the United penalty.

The Spurs striker appears to plant his left foot before Jones then puts him right foot on the ground. It results in Kane rolling his ankle before jumping up in agony.

Take a look:

Kane then had to be helped off the pitch at full-time as the United players celebrated their win.

To make matters worse, Kane’s teammate Son Heung-min has departed north London to represent South Korea at the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Son, who has scored 12 goals this season, could be unavailable until February with the final of the tournament on the first of the month.

It could be a long couple of weeks for Spurs fans without both Kane and Son…
