Tyson Fury admits he wants to emulate ‘Rocky Balboa’ and fight an unknown fighter should his plans to take on Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua fall through, as he takes inspiration from the film.

He is still recognised as the ‘lineal’ heavyweight champion to boxing fans after not losing a fight following his title win against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

In December, it is heavily believed he did enough to defeat WBC champion Deontay Wilder, and he is now targeting a rematch with the American or a contest with WBO, IBF and WBA champion Anthony Joshua.

Fury, however, has revealed his ultimate plan to MTK Global, stating, as per talkSPORT: “We’re just trying to get the rematch with Wilder. If Wilder don’t want it, then that’s it really.

"What I’m thinking about doing is what Rocky did in the Rocky movie, just getting some random person who’s never gonna get a chance at anything and giving him a shot at the ‘lineal’ heavyweight championship of the world.

“Making it like – ‘The champ gives the random person a shot.

"Just to give somebody who’s never gonna get a shot at anything a shot at glory, just like Apollo [Creed] did with Rocky.

"Apart from the Wilder and the Joshua fight, there’s no other fights out there for me really.”

In Rocky, Apollo Creed, the heavyweight champion, opts to give local fighter Rocky Balboa a title shot after his opponent pulled out of the scheduled fight in Philadelphia due to injury.

Fury continued: “[It would] just be some random person, maybe he’s gonna be unbeaten.
Hopefully Italian – an ‘Italian Stallion’ – who knows?”

However, didn’t Fury already do this in his two fights leading up to the title shot with Wilder?

After his two-and-half year layoff, he fought Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta, who was even part Italian!

But Fury is the ‘People’s Champion’ after all and this is what he wants to do for the boxing community.

Most boxing fans will be hoping his career doesn’t come to this, as promoter Frank Warren has admitted that they are in talks with Deontay Wilder ahead of a rematch, and that they have received an offer from Anthony Joshua last weekend.

We will have to wait and see what will occur for Tyson Fury in 2019, but it's sure to be an exciting year for the ‘Gypsy King’.
