Video shows the number of chances that Jorginho has created for Chelsea

Newcastle United v Chelsea FC - Premier League

Maurizio Sarri’s successful start to life at Chelsea is starting to wear off.

The Italian didn’t taste defeat in the Premier League until late November and his side were keeping pace with Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the table.

But the Blues’ charge has faltered and now it seems as though the rest of the season will be spent trying to secure a top four spot while aiming for success in the cups.

Of course, this is Sarri’s first season in England and he will be allowed time to get things right on the pitch.

One area that has sparked plenty of debate comes in midfield, where Sarri has used summer signing Jorginho in the middle and pushed N’Golo Kante further forward.

Fans have struggled to see the logic in moving Kante from his best position but Sarri values Jorginho’s passing and ability to initiate attacks from deep.

Yet the Italian midfielder has been knocked for failing to record a single assist this season.

Video of Jorginho creating chances

Jorginho has completed more than 2,000 passes for the club without setting up a goal.

It’s a stat that rivals fans will poke fun at but the reality is that Jorginho has created plenty of chances.

A video has emerged on Twitter, posted by @LaughnDigital, showing a number of through balls and opportunities that Jorginho has played.

Whether it’s a teammate missing with a shot or being offside, or even going on to make another pass, it’s wrong to suggest that Jorginho hasn’t been influential going forwards.

Sooner or later, that assist is going to come.

The 27-year-old’s case hasn’t been helped by the fact that Chelsea have lacked a regular goalscorer this season.

Alvaro Morata is enduring yet another disappointing season at Stamford Bridge and he’s nearing a move to Atletico Madrid, according to Sky Sports.

Gonzalo Higuain looks set to arrive from Juventus and Jorginho can only hope he strikes up an effective partnership with the Argentine striker.
