Manchester United are flourishing under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The club legend took over on an interim basis following Jose Mourinho's dismissal in December and has since won all six of the following games.

Most impressively, United picked up a big victory against Tottenham at Wembley last weekend, thanks to a Marcus Rashford goal and some heroics at the other end from David de Gea.

Under Solskjaer, they look like a new team. Players who were under-performing for Mourinho have hit form again, and there's a chance the side can push for a top-four finish come May.

But, there is still room for improvement.

Rumours have suggested that United are open to signing players this month - but, with just two weeks until the window shuts, it looks unlikely that they'll bring in any big signings in January.

Instead, according to the Manchester Evening News, the club is looking towards the summer transfer window and is hoping to make a number of transfers ahead of next season.

THE POSITIONS TO STRENGTHEN

The website reports that specifically, United will strengthen three positions in particular - and want a new centre-back, full-back and forward.

It's believed that the club's executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, will prioritise bringing in defensive reinforcements.

That was the position Mourinho was desperate to bolster before his departure and after De Gea had to make a record 11 saves against Spurs, there's clearly still an issue with United's back line.

THE BOARD'S TARGETS?

What's even more interesting about the website's report, is that it suggests United will push on with their targets, despite the uncertainty around their manager's future.

Solskjaer is doing a fine job - but he's only the caretaker boss and the club are expected to decide on a permanent manager as late as May or June.

So, without even knowing who's going to be in the Old Trafford hotseat, it appears that the United hierarchy are still planning on landing three targets in the summer window that they want.
