Gonzalo Higuain is on his way to Chelsea after the Blues agreed a deal with Juventus to sign the Argentine forward on loan until the end of the season. This news was broken by Sky Sports on Wednesday evening. It’s understood the loan could be extended for a further 12 months, subject to certain conditions, while a permanent deal is also a possibility.Higuain has spent the past few months on loan at AC Milan but has struggled to produce his best form at the San Siro.Nevertheless, Maurizio Sarri is keen to work with the 31-year-old again and has convinced Chelsea’s sceptical board to get the deal done.Sarri managed Higuain during his first season at Napoli. In 42 games, the prolific striker netted a career-best 38 goals before moving on to Juventus.Chelsea’s current number nine Alvaro Morata, meanwhile, is expected to leave Stamford Bridge for Atletico Madrid for the remainder of the season. While many Chelsea fans are excited by the prospect of Higuain leading the line at the Bridge over the next few months, instead of Morata, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has caused a stir on social media by expressing his very honest opinion about the revered centre-forward."I'm not sure on him," Merson admitted to Sky Sports."He was a great player but looks below his best of late. He hasn't pulled up trees for a while and now he's coming to the hardest league in the world."He won't have any time to adapt either as he needs to hit the ground running as Chelsea need someone to play as their focal point."I'd rather someone that has played in the Premier League before and knows what this league demands."Despite the fact Higuain has played for some of the world’s best clubs in Europe’s biggest leagues - including Real Madrid - Merson isn’t convinced the South American has what it takes to make an impact in England’s top division. The former Arsenal midfielder, in his own words, would rather see Chelsea sign an experienced Premier League striker instead.Hmm.Now, as you can probably imagine, Merson’s eyebrow-raising comments have sparked quite a reaction over on Twitter. Here’s a selection of some of the best responses…

It’s safe to say they all think Merson is talking utter nonsense.

Higuain is surely an upgrade on Morata - and arguably Olivier Giroud, too - and Merson could end up rather red-faced come the end of the season.
