Andy Murray has been warned not to play through the pain barrier any longer by former world number one Andre Agassi.

Murray has recently announced that he is set to put an end to his career in the near future with him planning to retire after this summer's Wimbledon.

However, with the severity and nature of his long-term hip problem, the former British and World number one has admitted that the Australian Open may have been his last tournament.

The Brit may undergo surgery in an attempt to extend his career but Agassi has told him that this is not a good idea.

Agassi played through and struggled with injury during the latter stages of his career and his refusal to quit has left him with permanent damage to his body that he still struggles with now.

The American does not want to see Murray make the same mistakes as he did some time ago;

"He deserves to end his career on his own terms. I tell you what's terrible news, is watching him in pain. Nobody deserves to play in pain" he said, as reported by the Daily Mail.

"The quality of life I have, based on unnecessary years of physical abuse, is real and if he's playing in pain he's probably making a great decision to bring his career to a close as soon as possible.

"Most tennis players spend a third of their life not preparing for two-thirds of their life. I would very kindly, compassionately and humbly ask him to realise that there is much more to look forward to.

"He's been great for the game and it's sad for the game. He'll go down as a truly great player who managed to accomplish something nobody else has done... to penetrate the top 3 of this generation will forever be regarded as one of the great accomplishments in this game.

"God bless him on his journey, I just don't want to see him in pain."
