Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly challenging for the signature of Philippe Mexes.
The French international defender is set to leave Roma for either a bargain fee in January or on a free transfer in the summer, and both Arsenal and Spurs are said to be interested in signing the player.
Mexes has been on the Emirates radar for some time as the Gunners look to strengthen their defensive options in January, and with injuries having an impact on the back line at Arsenal already this season manager Arsene Wenger is set to make a move in the market.
Harry Redknapp is also thought to be keen on the player, according to the Metro, and Spurs' interest is set to force the Gunners into an early move for the player.
Mexes began his career at Auxerre, spending five years for the Ligue 1 club before moving to the Stadio Olimpico in 2004.
However, the player has fallen out-of-favour under Claudio Ranieri and is almost certain to leave the Serie 'A' outfit.
The north London rivals are favourites to sign the player, although whether Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur seal a move for the player is up for debate.
A €3 million figure is thought to be enough to land the player, and Arsenal will have to pay the fee if they are to beat the White Hart Lane outfit to the signature.
