Liverpool's purchase of Mohamed Salah will down as one of the greatest signings in Premier League history.

Now that over 18 months has passed, AS Roma must be kicking themselves that they didn't demand more than £36.9 million and all the concerns about the move have been ridiculed in hindsight.

Yet, in the summer of 2017, there was good reason to be worried about Liverpool breaking their old transfer record and the main argument surrounded Salah's spell with Chelsea.

Nobody was questioning Salah's success in Italy, but many doubted that he could transfer that kind of form to the Premier League, a competition in which he was perceived to have flopped.

Salah initially moved to England during the 2013-14 season, yet a lack of opportunities at Stamford Bridge saw him play his final game in blue within 12 months.

Sarah's spell with Chelsea

And it's a spell in Salah's career that continues to be discussed, even if the 26-year-old has now gone on to prove the doubters wrong by hoarding records on Merseyside.

In fact, his former manager Jose Mourinho even addressed that period this week, telling beIN Sport: "I fell in love with that kid. I bought the kid."

He was also keen to reiterate that it was Chelsea's decision, not his, to eventually sell the Egyptian and that begs the question: did Salah flop as badly as we remember?

Did Salah really flop?

While nobody is trying to say that Salah actually set Stamford Bridge alight, a new YouTube video from 'CFC Videos' suggests that his spell has been criticised far too harshly.

The clips paint a completely different picture to many fans' recollections and the whole package is aptly titled as: "Mohamed Salah Flopped At Chelsea? Explain This!"

It certainly makes for an interesting watch after Mourinho's latest comments and goes a long towards explaining why Jurgen Klopp was so confident Salah could still succeed in England.

Flopped? No. Couldn't build on his promise? Yes.

It's certainly frustrating for Chelsea fans because the flashes of brilliance were present throughout 2014 and it makes you wonder whether the Blues were too quick to sell.

Mourinho definitely implied that he would have shown greater faith in the Egyptian, although the case studies of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne might suggest otherwise.

But there is unquestionably evidence in the video to show that Salah would become the Premier League star he is today, just with a little more experience and game-time.

Liverpool have, of course, been the benefactors in this situation and Salah will be hoping to lift the very same league title he couldn't get his hands on at Chelsea.

While the Blues are in a race for Champions League qualification, Liverpool are looking to win the biggest trophies out there and Salah will be invaluable in their bid for success.
