Manny Pacquiao’s WBA world welterweight title fight against Adrien Broner was a relatively underwhelming affair, with the Filipino controlling proceedings throughout on his way to a points victory.Despite turning 40 and in his 70th fight, Pacquiao connected with 112 punches to Broner’s 50, illustrating his dominance over the American as the judges awarded him a unanimous victory. His control of the fight was perhaps best illustrated by a viral tweet showing footage of a brutal Pacquiao left hook followed by Broner back peddling, before reversing the footage to make it look like he was dancing. The caption ‘Manny Pacquiao had this man Adrian Broner DANCING’ summarised exactly the mood of the fight, as Broner struggled to compose himself during the onslaught. In reality, it was Pacquiao who waltzed his way to maintaining his world title.Despite Pacquiao’s complete dominance and the internet ridicule of Broner’s dance moves, he remarkably claimed that he’d won the fight following its conclusion.Speaking after the fight, he announced that ‘everyone out there knows I beat him’ in a similar vein to Tyson Fury after his fight against Deontay Wilder, only this fight was far different.Broner will be remembered more for his dance moves than his performance.

Aside from Broner’s viral footwork, the fight also reignited the possibility of a rematch between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather was in attendance for the fight and gave little response to Pacquiao’s challenge after he announced, ‘I am willing to fight with Floyd Mayweather if he is willing to come back to box.’

Despite announcing his retirement following his victory over Conor McGregor in 2017, he has recently fought Tenshin Nasukawa, a Japanese kickboxer, in December.

While everyone is staying optimistic about the possibility of another Mayweather return to the ring, it seems unlikely to ever happen.

For now, Broner’s dance of defeat appears to be providing enough entertainment.
