Virgil van Dijk completed his world-record move to Liverpool a year ago this month - and it's safe to say that things have gone well.

They started perfectly as the Dutchman grabbed a late game-winning goal against Everton in the FA Cup and things have been on the up ever since.

Liverpool sit top of the Premier League after 22 games, with Van Dijk arguably the most important player in the side.

He's well on his way to becoming a true Anfield legend - if he can deliver that title.

The most iconic figures in the club's history have all delivered the big prizes, be it the league or the European Cup.

A select few have left a far bigger impression on the club than just the trophies, however, with the biggest living-legend of them all being Kenny Dalglish.

And Van Dijk has revealed that it was arguably the club's greatest ever player who made an 'unbelievable' gesture to welcome him to Liverpool.

"Kenny Dalglish gave me his mobile number in the very beginning and told me to ring him at any time," he said, according to the Mirror.

"It is unbelievable when he sometimes sends me messages before games. That is what Liverpool is about."

That's pretty special from Dalglish and exactly the kind of thinking you'd expect from the great man.

And Van Dijk has plenty to say about the legends at the club, too, explaining how much he likes to hear from them.

"Like most clubs, Liverpool have some private boxes for players available," he said. "I have my own box for my family here. To get there, you have to walk through the boardroom.

"On match days, that is like walking in a museum - almost every Liverpool legend is present. I just love to hear all the stories from the guys who used to play for this magical club.

"When you have meant something to this club, they will never forget you. You are Liverpool forever."

It's a group of legends that Van Dijk himself could one day be a part - if he delivers the all-important silverware.
