Barcelona remained five points clear at the top of La Liga after a 3-1 victory over Leganes at the Camp Nou.Ernesto Valverde decided to give Lionel Messi a little rest but, with the scores tied at 1-1 after 64 minutes, needed to call upon the Argentine. And Messi inspired Barca to victory, playing a role in Luis Suarez’s goal before scoring himself in injury-time.In Messi’s absence, Philippe Coutinho had the chance to prove everyone exactly why the club spent £142 million on him last January. This season, the Brazilian has been heavily criticised by media and fans alike for his uninspiring performances. So, did he take his opportunity against Leganes? That would be an unequivocal no.That’s according to Spanish football journalist David Cartlidge anyway. After Coutinho’s performance, Cartlidge tweeted: “Another frustrating, rather pointless performance from Coutinho. Dreadful decision making at every single turn. Most worrying is he doesn't really have the look of someone keen to change his current situation.”

That really doesn’t sound good, does it?

Cartlidge also spent some time to replying to a few of his followers after his original tweet.

One fan suggested that 21-year-old youth product Carles Alena could do Coutinho’s job and Cartlidge replied: “With his eyes closed.”

Then, when asked about Coutinho’s current situation, Cartlidge took a shot at the former Liverpool player’s attitude.

“Imagine there is some tentative interest there, his situation etc. He was excellent in PL afterall, best player at one point iirc. His attitude at Barcelona has annoyed me; looks like he's made it, doesn't really think, strive to fit in.”

Coutinho's dream move to Barcelona has turned into a bit of a nightmare, it seems...
