Kevin Prince-Boateng is on the verge of becoming a Barcelona player after the 31-year-old confirmed that he's joining them on loan from Sassuolo.

Speaking to Sky Italy about the rumours on Monday, Boateng proclaimed "Barca I'm coming!" before insisting he's focused on helping the Blaugrana beat Real Madrid.

"I'm sad to leave Sassuolo but this is a great chance," he said. "Don't ask me about Real Madrid - it's just the past.

"I only want to focus on Barcelona, and I hope to score at the Bernabeu [in] the next El Clasico."

Barcelona's move for Boateng is an unexpected one, but according to the Guardian it's because of his ability to play in a False 9 formation.

Luis Suarez is the club's only out-and-out striker at the moment and having Boateng as back-up will allow them to stay competitive in all competitions.

And should the Ghanaian impress Barcelona, they have the option to sign him permanently in the summer for just £7.05m.

It's unlikely that Boateng will start many games, of course, but he will at least get the chance to train and play alongside Lionel Messi.

Back in 2016 he was asked about Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's rivalry and who he thought was the best player in La Liga, to which he gave a very unique answer.

"Cristiano," Boateng responded in an interview with Sport. "He has it all. He has a right foot, left foot, is good in the air, so quick.

Before adding: "Well, on this planet it's Cristiano Ronaldo. Lionel Messi is not human. He is from another galaxy."

Nicely put, Kevin.

Boateng has played Messi on a couple of occasions throughout his career for AC Milan and he'll undoubtedly be relieved to now be on the same team as the Argentine.
