Football fans love to be able to follow their favourite players on social media. At a time when access to footballers is very limited, receiving updates via Twitter, Instagram or any other platform at least offers the chance for players to keep fans updated with their activities or thoughts.Yet, in the wrong hands, social media can only lead to bad things. Remember when Joleon Lescott was slammed for tweeting a picture of a Mercedes after Aston Villa were beaten 6-0 by Liverpool? It’s for this reason that many decide it’s not worth being on it.That isn’t the case for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who is active on Instagram. The Egyptian was also on Twitter and Facebook - until now.Salah has deleted his Twitter and Facebook accounts just hours after posting a cryptic tweet.

Salah's final tweet

“2019 Resolution: Time to get in touch, for real,” Salah wrote on Monday evening.

His tweet led to some confusion from supporters, with @MagicMoLFC asking: “Hmmm....where's this going😬❤️😂”.

While Salah’s Instagram page is still active, both his Twitter and Facebook accounts have been closed.

The Liverpool Echo have cited fans who believe that Salah’s tweet was to do with his ongoing dispute with the Egyptian FA.

“Some fans speculated that Salah may have dropped a cryptic hint that he wants to resolve his dispute with the Egyptian FA,” the Echo write.

“The row first started last year after a photo featured on the outside of the national team’s official plane, provided by official sponsor ‘WE’ - despite his own individual sponsorship deal with rival telecommunications firm Vodafone.”

Salah has received a lot of criticism for his perceived diving and some supporters believe this has also played a part in his decision to shut down his social media pages.

“Salah seems to check his social media and is very self aware of the opinion people have on him . It is better if he deletes his Twitter then letting all this talk of diving affect him,” wrote Reddit user wayfarer104.
