Barcelona have announced the signing of highly-rated midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Ajax on a five-year deal.

The Blaugrana's bid of €75m plus €11m in variables was accepted by the Eredivise side, with De Jong officially moving to the Camp Nou in the summer.

Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu was quick to tweet about the news after it was announced on social media.

The Barca president wrote: "With the arrival of Frenkie De Jong we add talent, youth and Barça style to our sporting project. We are convinced that he will be a key part of our team for years to come. Welcome, Frenkie!"

De Jong was also being courted by Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, but Barca managed to seal a breakthrough after talks in Amsterdam.

The midfield wonder-kid will reportedly pocket around €200,000-a-week, making him one of Barca's highest earners.

The Blaugrana have actually broken a club policy by offering the young midfielder such an enormous salary and you can read more about that here.

With De Jong's move now official, it is highly unlikely that Ernesto Valverde's side will continue to pursue PSG's Adrien Rabiot.

Reports from Holland have also suggested that De Jong's Ajax teammate Mathijs de Ligt could follow him to Catalonia in the summer as well.
