It's been eight months since the 2018 Champions League final but that night in Kiev will live long in the memory of Liverpool fans.

The Reds went into the final as underdogs against Real Madrid but would lose 3-1 in disappointing circumstances.

The night started off poorly for Liverpool, who lost Mohamed Salah to a shoulder injury early in the first half.

And they would end up losing the match after a disastrous mistake by Loris Karius, who gifted the lead to their opponents in the second half.

Melissa Reddy has written a detailed report on Jurgen Klopp's actions behind the scenes and, it says a lot about the German manager.

After satisfying his media duties, Klopp was on his way to the dressing room when he encountered a distraught Salah.

After the two had parted, Klopp was left 'unable to speak' and had to be left alone to digest what he had witnessed.

The report reads:  "The German, unable to speak, had to be left alone for a short while afterwards. It wasn’t about losing yet another final, it was about how the night had affected so many people that he loves.

"Klopp felt the distress of Salah’s final being ruined after a watershed season, while his World Cup was on the line.

"What hurt him most about the events in Kiev was that someone other than himself - Karius - was painted as the responsible party for Liverpool’s loss."

Klopp then had to console a devastated Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who had suffered a serious knee injury just a few weeks prior.

"Klopp felt the midfielder’s devastation of not being able to affect the result and was shredded by the severity of the multiple knee ligament damage he suffered en-route to the final," the report continues.

An observer noted of his actions: “It was typical Jürgen. He was devastated for everyone but himself.”

That just about sums Klopp up.

The German manager had just lost yet another final but, instead of feeling bad for himself, all he could think about was the setbacks his players had gone through.

As the report says, it is just 'typical' Klopp, and that attitude is a major reason why he has become such a popular figure at Anfield.
