Watford have confirmed they are in preliminary takeover talks with an unnamed buyer.

The club's controlling stakeholder, Lord Ashcroft, is currently in discussions over selling his stake in parent company Watford Leisure PLC.

"The board of Watford Leisure confirms that it is aware of such discussion, but they are at a very early stage and there can be no certainty that an offer for the company will be forthcoming," a club statement read. "A further announcement will be made in due course."
