Picking the best Premier League XI with only one player per club allowed

When you think of the best Premier League XI, the team will be dominated by players from the top six.

But what would the best Premier League XI look like if only one player per club is allowed?

it's certainly an interesting thought and it isn't one that has been discussed very often.

There is, of course, a lot of talent outside the top six, meaning an XI under this criteria would still be extremely strong.

So, with that in mind, we have attempted to select our version.

To ensure every Premier League team features, we have included a nine-man bench.

We've used player's reputations, as well as their form this season, as a criteria when picking which player should feature from each club.

The players included aren't necessarily the best players in their respective teams but are among the best in the league in their positions.

So here's what the team looks like...

GK: David de Gea - Manchester United

We just had to go with David de Gea in goal. The Spaniard is considered by many to be the best goalkeeper in world football.

Due to United's problems in defence this season, he has only been able to keep four clean sheets in 22 Premier League games.

However, his performance against Tottenham earlier this month, where he made 11 saves in a 1-0 win, was a timely reminder that he is the best in the world in his position.

RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka - Crystal Palace

It’s been a rapid rise for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has emerged into one of Crystal Palace’s best players despite making his senior debut in February 2018.

He has made the right-back position his own at the south London side and, if he continues his level of performances, a move to one of the world’s biggest clubs could be on the cards.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - Liverpool

Look no further than Virgil van Dijk’s signing when explaining Liverpool’s rapid transformation at the back.

Liverpool’s defence has often been their downfall in recent times but, after Van Dijk’s arrival in January 2018, it is now one of their biggest strengths.

He cost the Reds £75 million last year but that appears to be money well spent.

Liverpool have the best defence this season having conceded just 13 times in 23 games. Arguably, he is now the club’s most important player.

CB: Harry Maguire - Leicester City

Harry Maguire had a breakout campaign last season, where he became a key player for the Foxes.

He stayed at the club despite heavy interest from Manchester United in the summer, but he may well make the move to a big club at the end of this season.

LB: Lucas Digne - Everton

Everton haven’t had the best of seasons so far but one positive has been the emergence of Lucas Digne.

The Frenchman signed for the Toffees in an £18 million deal last summer and that appears to be money well spent.

He has been solid in defence this season and has contributed in attack; having registered three goals and three assists so far.

He’s only played for Everton for six months but he can already be considered one of the best left-back’s in the Premier League.

RM: Felipe Anderson - West Ham

Felipe Anderson has largely been deployed on the left this season, but we’ve put him in on the right to get him in the team.

He has been superb for West Ham this season.

There was a lot of expectation placed on Anderson’s shoulders after signing for a whopping £36 million in the summer. But he has not disappointed.

After a slow start, he soon started to show his quality and has weighed in with eight goals and three assists so far in the Premier League.

CM: Abdoulaye Doucouré - Watford

Abdoulaye Doucoure may well be the best player outside of the top six.

The midfielder can do it all. He contributes so much in defence as well as in attack.

Many pundits have suggested he could soon make a move to one of the world’s biggest clubs and we could see that happening.

CM: Kevin de Bruyne - Manchester City

Kevin de Bruyne has been injured for much of this season but, quite simply, he is Manchester City’s best player.

The Belgian midfielder was integral last season as Man City recorded a record points total in the Premier League.

He is now back to fitness and he will be important as his side look to pip Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title.

LM: Eden Hazard - Chelsea

Eden Hazard is a must inclusion.

The Belgian winger has been Chelsea’s most focal point in attack for a while, and it is again the case this season.

Hazard is enjoying arguably his best season in a Chelsea shirt, having notched 10 goals and 10 assists in 22 Premier League games.

Unfortunately for the west London outfit, Real Madrid seem to have a real interest in him and Hazard may not be a Chelsea player beyond this summer.

ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been sensational for Arsenal since signing last January in a £56 million deal.

He notched 10 times in 13 Premier League games in his first campaign, and he’s carried that form over to this season.

So far this term he has hit the back of the net 14 times in 23 top flight games and remains one of the best strikers in world football.

ST: Harry Kane - Tottenham

Tottenham’s best player just has to make it into the team.

Harry Kane has scored 122 times in 172 Premier League games and could be on to course to break Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260 top flight goals.

He’s currently injured at the moment but, prior to his injury, he recorded 14 goals in 22 Premier League games.

A strike-force comprising of himself and Aubameyang would undoubtedly be a quite lethal partnership.
