Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Eight matches. Eight wins. The Norwegian’s audition to become Manchester United’s new manager is going better than probably he even expected it to.The latest win came via a 3-1 victory over Arsenal in the fourth round of the FA Cup.What’s been most noticeable about Solskjaer’s stint in charge has been the improvement of players who had seemingly lost their way under Jose Mourinho, and on Friday evening that was the turn of Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean, who was booed by Arsenal fans throughout, gave the home crowd a reminder of his talents with a sharp display that included a well-taken goal in the 31st minute.Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial also got on the scoresheet in what was another impressive performance from the Red Devils.Their fans are sensing a return to the old days - we’re talking Sir Alex Ferguson, not David Moyes - and among them is UFC star Conor McGregor.

Conor McGregor's tweet about Solskjaer

McGregor is a Manchester United supporter and he expressed his delight on Twitter at full-time.

‘The Notorious’ praised Solskjaer’s passion for the club in a lovely message.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a special man!,” he wrote.

“The Man United Super Sub. Player AND Manager. Insane!

“You can feel the passion he has for his club and it’s history.

“Beaming with pride as he vividly explains the teams amazing counter attacking ability over the years. Past and present!

“Wow!”

Solskjaer is bound to appreciate that.

While his arrival at Old Trafford was only meant to be on an interim basis, there is a growing feeling that the manager’s job will be his if he continues to impress.

There are managers with more pedigree, sure, but Solskjaer has been able to knit the squad together and to bring back a winning mentality.

And that will benefit the club more than any ‘tactical genius’ could.
