Chelsea are hoping that Gonzalo Higuain will hit the ground running following his arrival on loan from Juventus.Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata have struggled in front of goal this season, scoring a combined 14 goals between them, and it’s left Chelsea in desperate need of a clinical finisher. The signing of Higuain will prove a coup if he can rekindle the form he showed under Maurizio Sarri at Napoli in the 2015-16 campaign. The Argentine netted 36 goals in 35 Serie A matches, a truly remarkable return. While Chelsea’s Premier League title bid has faltered, there is still plenty to play for as the business end of the season approaches. They will take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on February 24 while a meeting with Malmo awaits in the Europa League round of 32.And they won’t want to give up the fourth-placed position in the Premier League that they currently occupy.

Peter Crouch: Higuain's eye for goal cannot be questioned

Morata is evidence of the difficulties some players face when they arrive in the Premier League but Peter Crouch believes Higuain can transform their season.

Higuain was at the heart of Chelsea’s celebrations after they beat Tottenham on penalties on Thursday and Crouch thinks that if he gets the service, he will be a hit.

“Stamford Bridge was in full swing as Chelsea reached the Carabao Cup final and it was interesting to see one man in the middle of the celebrations," Crouch wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“Gonzalo Higuain's loan move had only been signed off the previous day but he was right in the mix as the players came off after they had beaten Tottenham on penalties. It could be a signal for how things will be in the coming months.

“Maurizio Sarri was adamant Higuain is the striker he needs to transform Chelsea and I'm interested to see what he does. I've always admired the Argentine but he really stuck in my memory last season for the way he played for Juventus against Spurs in the Champions League.

“Higuain looks heavy but there is no doubting he can move, while his eye for goal cannot be questioned.

“If he gets the right service, Chelsea will win a lot of games between now and the end of the season and they might even end up with some silverware, too.”

For Chelsea, Higuain could be the missing piece of the puzzle.
