Canadian boxer Adonis Stevenson has finally taken the first steps into making a full recovery after coming out of an induced coma since his loss to Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

Stevenson succumbed to an 11th round knockout at the hands of the Ukrainian last month - his first defeat in eight years - resulting in him losing both WBC and lineal light-heavyweight titles in his 10th defence, ending his five-year reign.

Moreover, moments after being stretchered out of the ring on that horrific night, he lost consciousness en route to The University Hospital of Quebec and upon reaching the hospital, doctors placed him into a medically induced coma.

Stevenson woke up before Christmas after being in critical condition for weeks following the contest at the Videotron Centre in Canada.

The 41-year-old started communicating with family as well as the medical team and doctors are optimistic of his condition improving significantly in the upcoming months.

Girlfriend Simone ‘Sisi’ God gave an insight into the current scenario regarding the southpaw and that Stevenson will continue to fight, in probably, the toughest situation of his career till date.

She said: “I am happy to share that after months of gruelling workouts and physical therapy, Adonis has taken his first few steps, and is working towards walking independently.

“Despite his champion health, these improvements to his condition have not come easy.

“Adonis has pushed himself as the true champion that he is, incorporating courage and determination into his recovery.

“It has been a true gift to watch his health improve and we are grateful for every advancement he has made.

“Adonis is a world champion in the ring and continues to exhibit strength and perseverance in his rehabilitation.

“Additionally, I am happy to share that Adonis is beginning to verbally communicate and is able to speak to our family, friends and his medical team.

“At this time, I am confident that our Superman will make a full recovery. On behalf of Adonis and our family, I thank you once again for your messages and ongoing support. We are truly humbled by your love and well wishes.”

Nicknamed ‘Superman’, the entire boxing fraternity as well as fans of the sport across the globe will be wishing to see Stevenson back again inside the ring and regain the glory and titles to his name in the months ahead.
