It's six months on since Real Madrid decided to let Cristiano Ronaldo leave for Juventus.

And they must regret that decision with every day that passes.

Los Blancos have had one of their worst seasons in recent memory.

They are currently fourth in La Liga, having accumulated just 36 points from their opening 20 games.

Santiago Solari's men are 10 points behind Barcelona, a gap that may well prove insurmountable.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, has been flying in Italy.

He has already broken numerous records, having scored 16 goals in 27 games for the Italian giants.

The Portuguese superstar has also already won silverware in the shape of the Supercoppa Italiana and, with Juventus having gone unbeaten in their opening 20 Serie A games, that title looks set to follow.

Ronaldo's decision to move was originally thought to be a desire for a new challenge, although he later stated that he did not feel wanted by Florentino Perez.

And some brand new information has emerged which emphasises the latter point.

Guillem Balague has claimed that Madrid were willing to give Ronaldo a new contract, but a disagreement about a buy-out clause forced Ronaldo to seek a move away.

Balague told the GB Transfer Show, per the Daily Express: “Julen Lopetegui had no idea Cristiano was leaving.

“There was no real push from Real Madrid for him to go.

“Cristiano was saying to Real ‘if you want me to stay, then give me a new contract.’

“And Florentino Perez said OK - but if you wouldn’t mind, lower your buyout clause. To a more manageable buyout clause.

“How do you think Cristiano reacted to that?

“He was like ‘they don’t want me, they don’t want me! Go get me a team to Jorge Mendes [agent]."

Interesting stuff. It seems both Perez was willing to keep Ronaldo at the club, and that Ronaldo himself was open to staying.

But according to Balague, the two parties could not agree on a fee for his buy-out clause, which ultimately lead to Ronaldo seeking a move away.
