Chelsea fans are starting to fear that Callum Hudson-Odoi has played his final game for the club.

Despite handing in a transfer request less than 24 hours before the Sheffield Wednesday game, Maurizio Sarri selected him in the starting XI for his side's FA Cup fourth round tie.

It was certainly a surprising decision but one that was quickly vindicated with Hudson-Odoi making sure the Bayern Munich rumours didn't effect his performance.

Alongside a brace from Willian, Hudson-Odoi also wrote his name on the scoresheet, scoring his second goal for the club by defeating Keiren Westwood at his near post.

As a result, BBC Sport ensured that they caught up with the 18-year-old after the match and couldn't resist asking him whether he'd played his last game for Chelsea.

Chelsea 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Hudson-Odoi remained coy on the issue, replying on the pitch: "I don't know. I can't say. But you know I just keep working hard and you never know what happens.

And he continued to answer when asked if he had spoken with the German club: "I can't say. I haven't. I haven't had a chat."

It should come as no surprise that Hudson-Odoi wasn't willing to give anything away and plenty of fans thought his behaviour after the match was indicative of a goodbye.

Chelsea fan's gesture to Hudson-Odoi

The Englishman made a point of giving away his jersey to a fan and gave a prolonged round of applause to every corner of Stamford Bridge.

During the game, Chelsea fans had chanted 'Hudson-Odoi, we want you to stay' and some supporters even stayed behind after the player's BBC interview.

And Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella noticed that they went particularly far to ensure Hudson-Odoi got the message and he quickly tweeted what the TV cameras missed.

Take a look at his update down below:

Just in case there was any doubt about Chelsea fans' feelings on the matter, there's no questioning it now.

Everybody recognises the incredible talent that Hudson-Odoi possesses, so it's no wonder they made a point of staying behind for nearly 10 minutes and making individual pleas.

Chants certainly did the trick during the game but perhaps yells felt more appropriate as Hudson-Odoi potentially left the Stamford Bridge pitch for the final time.

There's little doubting that he will have heard all the backing he receiving throughout the win and it must be playing on his mind after 12 years in west London.

You've got to credit the fans for showing such support for the young player and they'll be keeping their fingers crossed that he decides to stay at Chelsea.

And with the transfer window just days away from its completion, they shouldn't have too long to wait.
