Pep Guardiola has been in charge at Manchester City for just over two and a half seasons now.

In that time he's delivered three trophies, with the club winning the EFL Cup, the Community Shield and more importantly, the Premier League.

Guardiola had long been described as one of the greatest managers in world football before even moving to England, following impressive spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

He's since established City as one of Europe's top teams and this season they're challenging for silverware on four fronts.

They've fallen behind Liverpool in the Premier League though and going into the latest round of midweek fixtures, Pep's side are four points off the top.

Chasing a rival isn't a feeling that his players are very used to, especially after last season's record-breaking campaign that saw the Citizens storm to the title.

AN UNFAMILIAR FEELING?

In fact, Man City haven't had to chase many games, let alone teams, during Guardiola's tenure.

As it stands before Tuesday's fixture against Newcastle, the Spanish manager has won an incredible 73 of the 99 Premier League matches he's been in charge of.

But the next win might just be the most important from a personal point of view - because if he can mastermind a victory against the Toon, Guardiola will break a league record.

If he can win number 74 on Tuesday, he'll overtake Jose Mourinho, who currently holds the top-flight record of winning 73 of his first 100 PL games.

BEATING MOURINHO

Of course, for a manager like Guardiola, personal achievement is probably less important than team success.

But taking a record from his great rival Mourinho will no doubt give him something to smile about.

After all, setting a new Premier League record on Tuesday would once again remind football fans that Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches that the game has ever seen.
