Marouane Fellaini will leave Manchester United for the Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng after five-and-a-half years with the Red Devils.

The Belgian midfielder has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford ever since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in December, playing just 31 minutes in all competitions.

Fellaini was a favourite of Jose Mourinho's, but has been used sparingly by the Norwegian and clearly does not fit his playing style.

Solskjaer is clearly happy with the midfield options at his disposal in Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay.

Fellaini only recently signed a contract extension to 2020 with United back in late June, when Jose Mourinho was in charge.

After penning the deal, the Belgian said, per Daily Mail: "I am pleased to be continuing my journey as a Manchester United player. I made this decision because I am very happy here. Also, I feel like this team, under Jose, still has a lot we want to achieve.

"I would like to say a special thank you to Jose for the faith he has always shown in me. My focus now is on the World Cup and I am looking forward to a successful season ahead."

Fellaini is one of a growing group of Belgian players to try out the Chinese Super League in recent years.

Axel Witsel, Mousa Dembele and Yannick Carrasco have all made the move to the Far East and it will be interesting to see how Fellaini copes in a completely different environment.

Shandong Lueng currently have a very familiar Premier League face already on their books in former Southampton striker Graziano Pelle.
