Arsenal have announced they've signed Denis Suarez on loan until the end of the season after the 25-year-old agreed an extension with Barcelona.

Suarez's contract now expires in 2021, but Arsenal will have the option to buy him in the summer for around €25m.

Barca confirmed the move on Wednesday but soon deleted the story off their website. They blamed it on a 'technical error'.

A deal for Suarez once seemed dead in the water, but Arsenal - who have barely any money to play with in January - have forked over €2.5m to make it happen.

Signing Suarez will bolster Arsenal's attacking options due to the Spaniard's ability to play on the wing, as well as central midfield.

Barcelona's deleted statement read: "FC Barcelona and Denis Suarez have reached an agreement for the extension of the player’s contract with the club, which ended on 30 June 2020, until 30 June 2021.

"FC Barcelona have also agreed a loan deal for Suarez with Arsenal for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. The Premier League club will pay the player's salary during this time and the agreement includes an option to buy."

And here's Arsenal's announcement on Instagram.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery worked with Suarez at Sevilla and has signed the one-time Spain international for his versatility, which he explained in a press conference earlier this month.

"I think the club is working to take some players who can help us during these next four months," said Emery when asked about potential signings.

"Maybe the transfer market can help us with a centre-back. Also a winger, right or left. One player can help us in this position.

"He (Suarez) was playing in his career, and with me also, as a right or left winger."
