Paul Pogba’s form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager last month has been nothing short of exceptional. The much-maligned French midfielder, who looked a shadow of the player who helped France win the 2018 World Cup during Mourinho’s final months in charge of the Red Devils, had scored five goals in his last six appearances. It’s not just his goals that have caught the eye, either. Pogba has been hugely influential from central midfield, having rediscovered his form and confidence under his new boss. Two months ago there were some United fans who would have gladly seen the back of Pogba rather than Mourinho. Those people, however, have been left very red-faced over the past few weeks - both by Pogba’s resurgence and Solskjaer’s transformation of the team in such a short amount of time.Pogba, awarded United’s Player of the Month award for December, has been so good recently that fans on Twitter have been comparing him to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in recent days.In fact, some United supporters are arguing that Pogba should be considered an even better player than Gerrard was in his pomp. Now, you can probably imagine how these tweets have gone down with Liverpool fans on the same platform. They can’t believe United fans are genuinely comparing Pogba to one of the greatest Premier League midfielders of all time. And in response, they’ve united to post various tweets - some featuring videos - explaining why their Man Utd counterparts are talking complete nonsense. Here’s one showing how even a 34-year-old Gerrard was better than Pogba is now…On a similar note, this tweet compares Gerrard’s statistics from his mid-30s to Pogba over the past few seasons.

Here’s another video showing Gerrard’s top 11 goals. ‘Paul Pogba could never,’ reads the caption. ‘Not even good enough to lace Gerrard’s boots’.

Another Liverpool fan, meanwhile, argues that the only people who believe Pogba is better than Gerrard was were born in the 2000s.

“There’s no doubt Pogba is a very good football player but he doesn’t come close to Gerrard,” he continues. “There’s also no point debating with children as they have never seen Gerrard play. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.”

Here’s a small selection of other standout tweets from Liverpool fans on the debate…
