Roma's Edin Dzeko looks like he will find himself in a lot of trouble after his actions in the 7-1 defeat to Fiorentina.
Eusebio Di Francesco's side were humbled in Florence in the Coppa Italia quarter-final, with exciting young striker Federico Chiesa grabbing a hat-trick.
Fiorentina were 3-1 up at the break, which prompted Di Francesco to bring on Dzeko, who has been struggling for goals in Serie A this season - he has just four in 17 appearances.
However, the Bosnian did more harm than good and was duly shown his marching orders by the referee on 71 minutes after he appeared to spit in the direction of the official, Gianluca Manganiello.
Footage of the incident quickly popped up on social media and we've found the clearest video which appears to show Dzeko's disgraceful act.
It's hard to build a case in defence of Dzeko after watching that. The action from his head is reminiscent of spitting and the referee's reaction suggests it was the case.
And the fact that a red card was brandished so quickly is damning, with a yellow usually administered initially if it was an act of dissent.
Dzeko's moment of madness came after Lorenzo Pellegrini was not awarded a foul after some rough tackling from the Fiorentina defenders.
After the game, The Guardian, who regularly report on Italian games, stated that it appeared Dzeko had been dismissed for spitting.
If it has been included in the Manganiello's report, the Bosnian will be lucky to play any form of football in Italy for the rest of the season.
Di Francesco now finds himself on the brink of losing the Roma job following yet another disappointing result - they blew a three-goal lead against Atalanta on the weekend as well.
After the game, the Roma boss said, per Football Italia: “I will reflect on the situation and I am sure the club will too.
"Tonight’s match confirmed some issues that had been only hinted at during the campaign. However, I can rule out a resignation. That has never been a thought in my mind.”News Now - Sport News
