Maurizio Sarri says Gonzalo Higuain "is not in good shape" after Bournemouth 4-0 Chelsea

Gonzalo Higuain hasn't made the best of starts to his loan spell at Chelsea.

On Sunday the Argentine fired a blank against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup, and during Wednesday night's 4-0 defeat away to Bournemouth he didn't have a single shot.

Nor did he create any chances at Dean Court, which just about summed up how poor the Blues were going forward.

Higuain will want to forget his Premier League debut after he was replaced in the 65th minute for Olivier Giroud. Chelsea fans booed the decision.

Chelsea had just gone 2-0 down and needed to find a way back into the game, but clearly Maurizio Sarri didn't think it was working with Higuain as the lone striker.

But things have only gotten worse for Chelsea's new No.9 since the game.

Sarri, who stormed down the tunnel at full-time, kept his players in the dressing room for almost an hour and even kicked out his backroom staff to speak to them alone.

He emerged at 10:34pm to give his press conference with the English media and once again questioned whether he can "motivate" his players.

Higuain's performance and substitution weren't discussed, but Sarri later gave an interview with Sky Italia where he dropped the bombshell that his new signing isn't in good enough shape.

"He can improve a great deal," said the Chelsea boss. "At this moment, he is not in good shape.

"He has played very little recently between transfer market distractions and back pain. He can grow a great deal over the next few weeks."

Not good at all for Chelsea and Higuain, who seems to be struggling with some back pain that he carried over from AC Milan.

Higuain was signed by Sarri to fix Chelsea's goalscoring problems, but it's been just over a week and the 31-year-old seems to have caused more problems than solved.

And with just 14 games remaining of the Premier League season, Sarri needs to find a solution soon otherwise he risks missing out on the top four.
